KNSA has been working since 2017 to address the affordability gap with housing solutions in North Stonington. It aims to raise money every year through various fundraising events, supported by the people and businesses of the town and surrounding communities.
KNSA currently owns an 1840 one-room schoolhouse on Clark Falls Road, as well as two buildable lots on Main Street, donated by former resident Regina McGowan (Hescock) in memory of her husband, William Hescock, who was an active supporter of his town. In 2025, KNSA was awarded a $500,000 federal grant to help build homes on these properties. Additionally, the group has announced that it was awarded another grant this September, for $480,000, from the Connecticut Home Finance Authority under the Housing Tax Credit Contribution homeownership program. It intends to use this money to rehabilitate the schoolhouse into a home for a working family.
These projects would add to North Stonington’s stock of deed-restricted affordable homes. The town currently has eight such homes, according to the 2025 Affordable Housing Appeals List.
